Learn how to use the proper settings to capture a beautiful sunset.Beyond just being a natural phenomenon, the setting of the sun symbolizes many things to a variety or people and cultures. The setting of the sun represents the completion of a day's work, so it represents the opportunity to rest. This will feature traditional photograph, use of filters, and a method that people see in their cameras HDR, however we will focus more on bracketed HDR which is known as one of the more effective methods for sunset photography.
Outdoor Portraits

Step into golden hour with us for a relaxed outdoor portrait session featuring a model, Morgan. This three-hour meetup is perfect for photographers who want to sharpen their natural light techniques and work hands-on with posing and composition in a beautiful spring setting.
Morgan has 10+ years of experience as a domestically and internationally published model. She specializes in cosplay, fashion, boudoir, and portraits. Due to copyright which we learn about as well in this event, only photographs the host has taken with the model are posted. We'll be exploring a lush park environment with access to prairies, wildflowers, and a small waterfall area, creating a rich variety of backgrounds. Whether you're building your portfolio or just looking to shoot in a supportive, collaborative space, this session is open to all levels.
Bring your preferred camera gear, comfortable shoes, and any portrait lenses you'd like to try out. We'll have time to rotate through setups, share tips, and get feedback throughout the afternoon.
Some of the most popular and recommended portrait lenses are 50mm 1.2 or 1.8, 85mm 1.8 or 1.4, 70-200mm 2.8, 105mm 1.4, and 35mm 1.4
We will also be reviewing model releases and publications and delivering your prints to models or portrait customers in this event. Copyright privileges will also be covered briefly.

Street Photography in Troy

Learning to "see" interesting detail is a practised skill and we introduce you to easy methods that will open your photographer's eye and expose you to a world that is alive with detail. The most rewarding part of the class is learning how to approach interesting people and have them willingly pose for you.
We will also go over settings, focusing techniques and lens choices common to street photography to help us capture those random chance encounters.
Natural Light Portraits with Family & Friends as Models

This meet-up will explore how we can take beautiful portraits using natural light and backgrounds. We will explore how to recognise flattering light and how to manipulate it whilst shooting in a less controlled environment than a studio. We will explore how we can work collaboratively with our subject to achieve a portrait that captures their personality and style. We will also look at posing and setting your subject at ease. Technical learning points will include accurate focusing and metering for skin tones.

I'll show you, and explain how, an on-camera speedilite flash connects to the top of the camera can help improve the composition of your photos. The flash helps to diminish bright sunlight in outdoor photography and provides soft light with indoor settings. The flash can be used both inside and outside. All skill levels are welcome. A photography challenge will be offered. Parking is free on the same side of the road as the pavilion. Questions and discussion are always welcome. There are plenty of spots left for signing up.
